Young Handler Information

Young Handler Competition 9th November 2019 - Judging starts 11am.

Entry is open to young handlers from any region.

Open to dairy breeds only – grade or pedigree. Light and heavy breed are judged together. There are two sections - calf and yearling.

Waikato, Waihi, Te Aroha, Cambridge, Te Kauwhata, Paeroa and Morrinsville A & P Shows also have Young Handler Classes, so you will be able to enter these competitions too.

Rules:

  • A reasonable standard of dress and showmanship is required.
  • Open to College students (Year 9 and above) and those who have left school, up to including 20 years old on 1 November 2017, Years 0 to 8 inclusive are ineligible to enter.             
  • Open to any grade or pedigree calf of any breed.
  • Calves may have been exhibited by another child at calf club, but must not be entered in both the calf club section and the young handler section at the Hauraki Plains Rural Show. ie one animal, one exhibitor.
  • One yearling and/or one calf per exhibitor. Novices can enter the calf section - novice, or calf section - open, but not both.
  • Calves to have been born between 1 June 2019 and 31st August, 2019.
  • Yearlings to have been born between 1 June 2018 and 31st August 2018.
  • All exhibits must be NAIT compliant.
  • Clipping & oiling permitted - please note, this is prohibited in the calf club section, so a young handlers calf once clipped will be ineligible for calf club events.
  • Prize money, maybe replaced, at our discretion with product / vouchers to the value of.

Class 3                          Handling and Presentation – this will be judged on the rearing, preparation and presentation of the animal, the exhibitors knowledge of the animal, and the exhibitors personal presentation.

                                      1st $50, 2nd $30, 3rd $20

Novice Class - Calves only - Entrants must have not competed at more than two Rural Shows (in handler section), and must have been unplaced at HP Rural Show.

Championship and Reserve Champion Young Handler

Based on points for the five classes in the open ring. In the event of a tie, the exhibitor with the highest points in Class 5 (Handling and Presentation) will be the winner.

 

Trophy and sash to the winner, sash to the reserve.
